My Favorite Things

I'm going to be away for a few days, but I'll try to find a computer to write a daily post. Just in case I can't, here is a long project I've been working on: an inspiration board based on the song, "My Favorite Things." What a wonderful theme for a winter wedding!

Lyrics:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with string
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

Ideas: (colors = white and blue)
  1. Flowers: Make white roses your primary flower, and have them everywhere.
  2. Centerpieces: white roses in copper kettles, bought from vintage shops.
  3. Mittens: Gift your bridesmaids mittens white muffs.
  4. Favors: Wrap oatmeal cookies in boxes, wrap with brown paper and tie with string.
  5. Escort cards: For an added touch, tie escort cards to little silver scissors so people can cut the string on their favors.
  6. Transportation: Ride to your ceremony on a cream pony and sleigh.
  7. Food: Serve warm apple streudel for dessert with ice cream. Stick with a rustic, winter menu like warm soup and hearty whole grain bread, followed by quail stuffed with cranberries and rice.
  8. Exit: Give guests sleigh bells to ring for your ceremony exit/reception entrance.
  9. Dress: Dress flower girls in white dresses with blue sashes.
  10. Invitations: Include the lyrics to "My Favorite Things" printed on cardstock with your invitation. Put invitations in boxes instead of envelopes, and add a little symbolic gift, like tiny snowflakes, a little mitten ornament, or a bell (with the ringer taken out).
  11. Reply cards: Ask guests to write down their favorite thing on their reply card. Hang reply cards on a tree during your wedding.

Planned weekend activities: Sledding, snowball fights, smores, snowman contest with prizes, hot chocolate by the fire.
