Unique Menu Ideas, Part II

Square Cupcakes: As soon as I saw these unusual cupcakes from Cupcakes Squared in San Diego, I wondered why I had never thought of them!

Sweet and Sour Chicken: We all know the “chicken, fish or beef” rule when choosing your menu options, but asking your caterer for a chicken dish that’s a bit more exotic will be a surprise for your guests. Other ideas: tandoori chicken; chicken and pasta; oven fried chicken; chicken stew; Thai curry chicken). Recipe from Working Woman Food.

Whoopie Pies: A great alternative to cookies or cakes. Find the recipe for these dreamy pumpkin whoopie pies with creamy cream cheese filling at Dreamy Desserts.

Fried calamari in newspaper cones (from Anna’s Cool Finds) would make a great item for your cocktail hour!

One of the most memorably presented foods I’ve ever seen was at a party hosted by Google in London last year. We were served pesto pasta with chopsticks in miniature Chinese takeout boxes. Now, planning a wedding, I think that is just the most unique idea for a cocktail hour food, or even an appetizer! Find the recipe at Made Healthier.

Meringue Cookies served alongside coffee or tea are a sweet way to end the meal! (Image via Sooishi Cuisine).
