Thanksgiving

What a creative idea from this wedding featured in MS Weddings!! Caroline Beak's small Charleston wedding (just family and close friends) took place on Thanksgiving! It also featured bridesmaids dressed in gorgeous white. Understated and elegant. Weddings are so much about giving thanks and celebrating happiness--what better day to do this than Thanksgiving?

Calligraphy

Seating Chart Idea (from Martha--sorry, I couldn't find the exact photo!): Have a calligraphy write each table's seating list separately--each table's list then gets a different-shaped frame, hung on the wall.

Name Change Express Giveaway

Giveaway: Name Change Express is giving away a FREE name change express service to a lucky bride-to-be!! Just leave a comment below by noon on TUESDAY, 11/24 telling us what you like best about the service, and I will choose a winner!

Name Change Express

I am so excited to welcome Name Change Express as a new sponsor on Victoria with Roses! I really love this service, because the last thing you want to worry about after your wedding is the overwhelming logistics of changing your name. For only $29.95, you tell Name Change Express who you need to inform, selecting from a long list of government agencies, and they provide EACH government agency's and company's instructions, forms and letters, pre-filling them with your information and mailing addresses. Check out the explanatory video on their site to see how it all works!

My other favorite idea: They offer gift cards! Seriously, what a great bridal shower gift!!

Wedding Paper Divas

To welcome back Wedding Paper Divas as a sponsor on Victoria with Roses, I wanted to feature a few of my favorite pieces of their stationery! How I love elegant black and cream thank yous, chic blue and white, and dreamy pink... (and what a great idea to do a blue and white candy bar, especially with that jar full of marshmallows!). Head over to their site and check out the insane amount of wonderful products and stationery they carry!

Letterpress

Amazing deal by Ajalon Printing and Design: This small, family-owned letterpress printer in Northern California set out to make letterpress more affordable--100 letterpress invitations and enclosure cards for only $398!!

Tips

I love these tips by New York photographer Tina Shah Doshi (and her beautiful pictures!):
1.
Know your style. Traditional, candid, photojournalistic? Let your photographer know in advance if you have a preference towards one or the other. Keep in mind that great wedding pictures are made up of a combination of all styles.
2. Schedule time for just the two of you. Schedule at least 30 minutes with just you and your photographer. You will want to make sure you get those romantic shots that everyone loves. This session should be a closed session in order to truly capture those intimate moments.
3. Be comfortable. If you know you have a preference for wearing your hair and make-up a certain way, why deviate significantly on your wedding day? The best photographs are when you look natural and comfortable. Be sure your style on wedding day is who you are.
4. Be mindful of how much you drink! (Minimize alcohol consumption and maximize water consumption).

Oil

Unique Favor Idea: Mini bottles of olive oil ($5.95 at Westport Favors), paired with a small loaf of homemade bread, or a recipe for one.

Bridesmaids' Dresses on Sale!

Especially if you have a large wedding party, finding affordable and pretty bridesmaids dresses can be a challenge... I know I spent about a month looking through hundreds of websites for dresses for my wedding. I love these dresses by VPONESALE because not only are they incredibly affordable (their dresses are $70-$90 each) but they are gorgeous! They can offer them so inexpensively because the company is located in China, so basically you are taking out the 'middle man' in your purchase. They have more than 50 customizable color options, offer free custom sizing and FREE air express (a major plus), AND they guarantee that the order will be sent within 8 working days.

I've posted three of my favorites: I love the first dress for a 50s, prom-inspired wedding (think pastels, balloons, and vintage music!), the second dress for a garden or beach wedding (any color, especially yellow, paired with white for your color scheme will give you a breezy, simple, chic vibe), and the third dress for an elegant evening affair.

Chocolates

Favor Idea: Artisan chocolates. Color Idea: Red and white.

Invites

I love these Thanksgiving invitations from Oh So Beautiful Paper--the canvas pocket and the simplicity of the black and white with lots of white space would make for a great wedding invitation!

Vintage Aviation

Soooo jealous of this invitation set I found on Oh So Beautiful Paper, by Li Lai. The couple asked for a vintage aviation theme... the same as my wedding!

Study

A message from a Doctoral Student at University of Virginia -- if you could help her out that would be great!

Engaged volunteers needed! I am looking for volunteers for a study of attitudes towards marriage and parenthood among engaged couples. The study consists of a 25-30 minute online survey. To qualify for the study, you must be 20-35 years old, live in the U.S., and plan to marry or have a commitment ceremony within the next 365 days. You and your romantic partner must not have children, and this must be the first marriage for both of you.

You can:

-Help a doctoral candidate;

-Increase the pool of scientific knowledge;

-Support research on marriage and families; and

-Spend some time thinking about your relationship!

I am working with Dr. Charlotte J. Patterson, a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia. This study has been approved by the University of Virginia Institutional Review Board #2009025800.

If you and/or your romantic partner are interested in participating or want further information, please email me at survey.couples@gmail.com. I will send you a link that you can use to access the study.

Thanks!
